Stephen Hall - Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire Pennines

Having spent over 15 years as a geography and outdoor activities teacher, and even longer mountain biking, I thought what could be better than combining the two and providing mountain bike skills training courses.

What better place to learn mountain bike skills, than within the fantastic surroundings of Hebden Bridge in the Calder Valley. Located in the Yorkshire Pennines, this is a fantastic mountain biking area, which I know inside out. It offers legendary mountain bike trails, which inspired me to write the guidebook for the area.

Running a mountain bike skills course is so satisfying. Seeing the dramatic improvements that clients often make. Sharing with them in their sense of achievement when a new technique ‘clicks’ or a seemingly impossible trail gets ridden for the first time is an amazing feeling, for both the participant and myself.

I have been mountain biking for over 20 years, and have mountain biked throughout the UK and Europe. I enjoy a good cross- country day as much as an uplift day at a downhill track, or playing about in a free-ride park. When it comes down to it, it’s all mountain biking and about having fun.

In addition to providing mountain bike skills courses, I also offer guided rides throughout the South Pennines tailored to your ability and requirements please note: these do not involve any mountain bike skills training. Navigation days, both walking and cycling specific are also available. For details of these please visit –
